Sheridan Street Housing Philadelphia, PA _ Our charge was to design affordable, environmentally sustainable housing on a long, narrow parcels at Sheridan and Berks Street in North Philadelphia. We explored the idea of sustainability in the broadest sense, considering how the project might support the long-term environmental, economic and social health of the neighborhood. We created a simple, prototypical house based loosely on the dimensions of a typical Philadelphia rowhouse. The module would emphasize daylight, flexibility, and be regular enough to make pre-fabrication an option for construction. In order to balance the site layout of houses, yards, and parking pads we devised the L-shaped semi-detached building pair. The fenestration pattern was laid out on each facade relative to their solar exposures and interior programs. SCROLL FOR IMAGES >> |
