HYBRID EDGE

Ghana is in the midst of a major economic and spatial reorganization – since the discovery of oil in 2009, urban centers have grown exponentially, increasing the average cost of living and expanding development into surrounding agricultural areas. This prototypical model for workers’ housing in a rural area near Takoradi, a major industrial port city, mitigates the intense pressure for suburban sprawl with a mixed-use, mixed-density, multi-phased model. Positioning development as a means to create a self-sustaining economic generator, the project provides rural community resources along with dense, affordable housing for urban workers and their families.
